Recaps be my passion.
I like giving a new reader a sporting chance at understanding what they’re about to read. Lil’ context & a few character names never hurt nobody.
But I hate. Hate. HATE dry, text-heavy recaps with no art. When your recap’s so boring that a reader would rather skip it than know what’s happened previously, then your recap has no purpose. Might as well have an ad to start the book. (I’ve been guilty in the past of doing these kinda recaps. I try to avoid them now.)
For THOR THE MIGHTY AVENGER, I take panels from previous issues, edit/sliiiiightly revise Roger Langridge’s text, then my production dude, Rus Wooton, smushes it all together to create an “all new” page of artwork. A recap of a comic book made from a combination of WORDS and ART!? How freakin’ novel. :)
Here’s what me & Rus did with THOR THE MIGHTY AVENGER #4’s recap. What’s important to know before reading the issue:
1. Thor’s Name
2. Jane’s Name
3. Thor’s from Asgard.
4. Odin’s Thor’s father.
5. Odin got pissed at Thor and threw him out of Asgard, but Thor doesn’t know why.
6. Thor’s been to Earth before, but it was a long time ago.
7. Jane’s letting Thor stay with her, while he figures out what’s going on.
That’s it. Thoughts?
I love Thor Mighty Avenger. It’s
